Paying for help at home

Families often combine private funds, long-term care insurance and, for people who qualify, Medicaid home care. For Medicaid and benefits options see Pay for Senior Care NY. NY Connects can explain public programs at no cost.

What HOMEWARD is — and is not

HOMEWARD provides planning, navigation and family coordination. It does not diagnose medical conditions, provide emergency response, legal advice or financial advice. When a regulated or licensed service is needed, such as personal care or home health aides, it is delivered through our licensed care partners or other independent licensed providers, not by HOMEWARD.

Common questions

Is HOMEWARD a home care agency?

No. HOMEWARD plans and coordinates. Personal care and home health aides come from licensed home care agencies and our licensed care partners.

What is the difference between a companion and a home health aide?

A companion helps with company, activities and light tasks. Personal care and home health aides give hands-on care and work through licensed agencies.

Can Medicaid pay for help at home?

For people who qualify, Medicaid can pay for some home care. Rules and assessments apply; NY Connects can explain options.
